Two-person show: Viewed by Another Species with Alexandria Nazar.
Information Space Gallery, Philadelphia PA.
Sept 14-Oct 8, 2019.

Information is proud to present Viewed by Another Species featuring Philadelphia based artists Austen Camille & Alexandria Nazar. Using cartography as a reference point both artists employ diagrammatical strategies in order to both reconstruct and archive past experiences. The language created through this process affords the artist the opportunity to tangibly identify patterns and inconsistencies in their personal histories that ultimately govern the navigation of their realities. While both artists employ similar methodologies of investigation, each has their own distinct impetus to decipher their past experiences.

Austen Camille’s murmuration of collected objects can be viewed as a synecdoche of their life thus far. Camille creates a microcosm where objects can embody memories. Through body castings paired with collected objects, such as fishing lures, cut off wheels, and plant matter, Camille pursues homeostasis, an equipoised landscape.

Alexandria Nazar’s compartmentalized units of memory are experiences abstracted to the point of absurdity. Each rectangular cardboard unit, created out of cut paper and clay, contains a vibrancy that masks intrusive histories. Much like the comic books Nazar draws from, the multiple one act scenarios allow her to reimagine an infallible world. Nazar’s works exists in the grey area, similar to the gutters of a comic strip, between coping and rationalization.
